2008
 
June - Brother Knights worked booths at both Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Thomas More's picnics. We raised and contributed $375 to each parish.
  

August - Knights of Columbus donated over $200 in pencils to students of Saint Nicholas Academy.

  

October - Knights of Columbus held their first Cornhole Tournament and raised around $1,500 to help sponsor Council activities. Photos of the event are available on the website.

  

November - Brother Knights helped to organize and work Cornhole Tornament & Chili Supper at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This event raised around $1,500 for the parish.

  

December - The Council donated nearly $700 toward to Angel Trees to help needy families at Christmas. Photos are available on the website of Brother Knights in action. We also donated another $135 toward Project Hope in December.

 

2009

 

January - Knights of Columbus raised $1,385 from our Tootsie Roll Drive in the fall. We donated those procedes to Harbor House and to help those with Down Syndrome in January. Please see photos coming to the website. 

 

Bob Baker organized a Free Throw Contest  at St. Thomas More Gym for youth ages 10-14. We had 30 youth participate in the Knights of Columbus First  Free Throw Contest 

  

February - The Council assisted in organizing and working the First Cornhole Tournament for  St. Thomas More on February 7th. Brother Knights helped to raise nearly $1,000 for the parish.

 

March The Council held it's first monthly Sunday Pork Chop Dinner with the Monsignor Newman Council.

 

The Council sponsored the Beer Booth at a Crusade for Children Fund Raiser. Brother Knights worked the event and raised $200 to help sponsor Council activities.

    

April The Council held it's monthly Sunday Chicken Dinner with the Monsignor Newman Council on April 5th.

 

The Council sponsored the Concession Booth at a Baseball Team Fund Raiser held at Mt. Carmel. Brother Knights worked the event and raised $214 for the parish.

 

May The Council offered a bouquet of Roses at St. Thomas More, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, & Blessed Teresa of Calcutta for Mother's Day. We also handed out Mother's Day cards to the mothers of our parishes.

 

Brother Knights volunteered their time, skill, & materials to help construct a ramp for parish member in need. Brother Knights delivered the ramp on May 23rd to the home of Bob Daugherty.

 

Brother Knights assisted St. Thomas More with their Festival on May 24th. Knights of Columbus helped to cooked most of the food for the festival and work at many of booths and contests during the day. The event raised $1,200 for the parish.

 

June Brother Knights assisted Mt. Carmel with their Picnic on June 12th & 13th. Knights of Columbus helped to prepare much of the food for the picnic volunteering in the cafeteria and at the food booth. The Council also worked their own booth, which raised around $1,100 for the parish. 

 

July Brother Knights assisted Blessed Teresa of Calcutta with their Picnic on July 17th & 18th. Knights of Columbus helped to prepare much of the food for the picnic volunteering in the kitchen . The Council also worked their own booth, which raised around $270 for the parish. 

 

August - Brother Knights had 1st annual dinner on August 8th. We had over 50 Knights, friends, & family in attendance. Joe Hafner was announced as our First ever Knight of the year.

 

Brother Knights assisted in a Charity Cornhole Tournament on August 22nd that raised $425 in memory of Brother Knight, Ralph Morse. A Corporate Sponsor is matching the donation, so $850 is being donated to Norton Cancer Institute.

 

October -   Knights of Columbus held a Trivia Night Our Lady of Mount Carmel that raised $834 to start a scholarship fund for students wishing to attend Catholic High Schools.

 

Brother Knights have collected over $2,800 in October in our annual Tootsie Roll Drive. The donations benefit mentally challenged children in the community. 

 

November - Brother Knights helped to organize and work Cornhole Tornament & Spaghetti Supper at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This event raised money for the parish.

 

December - The Council donated nearly $120 toward to Angel Trees to help needy families at Christmas.  We also donated another $148 toward Project Hope.

 

Brother Knights also volunteered their time at Christmas events during December. One such event was Shop with Hero, which helps provide clothing to needy children.

 

 

2010

 

 

January - Bob Baker organized a Free Throw Contest  at St. Thomas More Gym for youth ages 10-14. We had parish youth participate in the Knights of Columbus Second Annual  Free Throw Contest. 

 

Brother Knights assisted in a Charity Cornhole Tournament on January 16th that raised $275 for Supporting Heroes. A Corporate Sponsor is matching the donation, so $550 is being donated to this organization.

 

February - Knights of Columbus held another Trivia Night Our Lady of Mount Carmel that raised $1,771 to start a scholarship fund for students wishing to attend Catholic High Schools.

 

March - Knights of Columbus filed paperwork to start their own Fourth Degree Assembly for our council.

 

McKune Council would like to congratulate Travis Higdon, who represented the council at the State Free Throw Championship.  The Championship was held at Georgetown College on March 27th, 2010 and Travis was the winner in his age group besting 34 other competitors. Travis reached the state level by winning the council competition and then the regional competition held at St. Augstine Church in Lebanon KY on February 20th. Congratulations Travis.

 

April - Brother Knights assisted in a Trivia Night sponsored by Krogers. The event was a fund raiser for the Crusade for Children.

 

The Council hosted their First Knights  of Columbus Function.  1st, 2nd, & 3rd Degree Ceremonies were jointly hosted by St. Louis Bertrand & Monsignor McKune Councils at Our Lady of Mt Carmel. The Event saw 6 Knights complete their 1st Degrees and 56 Knights complete their 2nd and 3rd Degrees.

 

May Council members attended the state convention and hosted the convention mass. Our council was awarded the Double Star Award for the second year in a row for our achievements.

 

June Brother Knights assisted Mt. Carmel with their Picnic on June 11th & 12th. Knights of Columbus helped to prepare much of the food for the picnic volunteering in the cafeteria and at the food booth. The Council also worked their own booth, which raised around $675 for the parish. 

 

July Brother Knights assisted Blessed Teresa of Calcutta with their Picnic on July 16th & 17th. Knights of Columbus helped to prepare food for the picnic volunteering in the kitchen. The Council also worked their own booth, which raised money for the parish. 

 

August Brother Knights assisted Brother Knights at the Newman Council at the Saint Joseph’s Picnic. The Councils worked their booth, which raised money for the Orphanage. 

 

The Council donated $1,000 scholarships to help two deserving students obtain a secondary Catholic education. This year’s recipients of the K of C Scholarships were James Duffy Baker and Emily Russell.

 

October – The Council has been very active in their efforts to raise money for charity. Brother Knights have raised about $800 selling pumpkins at Halloween.  We are also in our third year of doing our

Tootsie Roll Drive
for Charity.

 

Our Council assisted Newman Council with their Wednesday’s Child program. We raised $3,000 with the motorcycle ride, which we presented the check at the telethon on 32 WLKY.

December The Council donated $265 toward to Angel Trees to help needy families at Christmas.

 

It took the Council a few years, but we gotten our RSVP program started.  We began by sponsoring seminarian, Stuart  Priddy, in his journey to become a priest.

 

 

2011

 

 

January The 3rd Annual Freethrow Championship for our Council had a nice turnout. We had 19 boys and girls come out to compete and we collected 22 canned goods for Project Hope. Bob Baker wanted to especially thank Bill Kustes, Jim Cirillo, Rick Fears, and Joe Hafner for their help.

March St. Francis de Sales Assembly #3228 worked with the Ancient Order of Hibernians and coordinated the participation of the Knights of Columbus in their annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sat. March 12th. Brother Knights represented our Assembly and Council along with other Councils from through out the state.

McKune Council 14471 was the host council for State Free-Throw Championship in 2011 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Gym on Saturday March 19th . Brother Knights and families drove in from all over the state. The event was well attended and a good time was held by all.

April - Brother Knights raised money for Charity with a Flower Sale. We also assisted The Ladies Auxiliary with their Yard Sale. Both event were a fund raisers for our charitable donations that we make to the community during the year.

 

June Brother Knights assisted Mt. Carmel with their Picnic in June. The Knights of Columbus helped to prepare much of the food for the picnic volunteering in the cafeteria and the food booth. The Council also worked their own booth, which raised funds for the parish.   

 

July Brother Knights assisted Blessed Teresa of Calcutta with their Picnic in July for the 3rd year in a row. Knights of Columbus helped to prepare much of the food for the picnic volunteering in the Food Booth. 

 

August Brother Knights from both Newman & Monsignor McKune Councils worked at St. Joseph’s Orphans Picnic for the 3rd year in a row. Knights of Columbus donated their time in the Tool Booth as well as making a cash donation to this worthy cause. 

 

The Knights assisted the DeSales High School soccer program with their Trivia Night. The event raised around $2,000 for the team and $500 for the Knight’s Scholarship Fund.

 

October  - Brother Knights from both Newman & Monsignor McKune Councils held a motorcycle ride. The Knights of Columbus donated their time to raise nearly $3,500 for Wednesday’s Child. 

 

Brother Knights raised $2,150 from selling K of C football tickets. The funds go the State charities program to be donated to deserving organizations helping the needy through out the state.

 

November  - Brother Knights participated in many outings in our annual

Tootsie Roll Drive
. The Knights of Columbus donated their time to raise $5,206 to help mentally challenged children. 

 

Our Council also held Trivia Night to raise money for our Scholarship Fund. We raised over $1,200 give out in scholarships for 2012 to deserving students seeking Catholic education.

 

December  - Brother Knights assisting making St. Nicholas Academy Gala a success by donating their time to provide concessions for the event. The Council donated $500 back to the school from the concession sales.

 

The Council also raised $160 for the Kentucky Heavenly Pennies Program to support vocations. We also contributed $1,300 to support seminarians this year. The Council donated $850 back to the parished that support our Council.

 

 

2012

 

 

January The 4th Annual Freethrow Championship for our Council had a nice turnout. There were 28 total participants. We saw a lot of great shooters Saturday. Thanks to all those who came out and gave it a shot. We encourage them to keep practicing and hope that we will see them again next year. Thanks also to everyone who brought a canned good for the St. Tom More food pantry known as Project Hope. The winners will move on to the Regional Round that will be held in February. We will let you know if we have any regional winners.
